What is Crossnook?

Crossnook is a calm crossword game set in the corner of an old bookshop. Tap a square, type on the big keyboard and fill the grid while the lamp glows and the shelves creak.

A new daily mini crossword, endless quick minis for a coffee break and big arrow-word grids, all with short, fair clues written for each language. Inky the bookworm watches from his open book and cheers every finished grid.

How to play

  1. Tap a square to pick a word; its clue shows above the keyboard.
  2. Type the answer on the big keyboard. No need to type accents.
  3. Each blank shows how many letters it hides, so every clue is a fair fight.
  4. Stuck? Check marks the wrong letters of a word, and Reveal fills in the right letter of a square.
  5. Finish the grid for a page flip and paper confetti, then share your time without spoilers.

Why you'll love it

Meet the cast

Inky

Inky

A bookworm with round glasses and a red ribbon scarf who lives in an open book. He peeks out to watch you play, smiles when a word goes in, frowns at a wrong letter and cheers every finished crossword. A tiny first puzzle with Inky shows you how everything works.

The music

Quiet bookshop music: parlour piano and clarinet with upright bass and soft brushes on the menu, lo-fi acoustic jazz with a muted guitar while you solve, and on rainy puzzles a Mellotron flute and soft piano over vinyl crackle. A solved grid ends with a harp glissando and celesta.

Questions and answers

Is Crossnook free?

Yes, it is free on Google Play. You start with 3 free Checks and 3 free Reveals; after that, a short ad you choose to watch gives 3 more. Ads between puzzles are rare and never during play. Two optional one-time purchases exist: Remove ads (about 2.99 EUR) and Premium (about 4.99 EUR: no ads at all and the helpers free every day, up to a daily limit).

How does the daily mini work?

Every day there is a new 5x5 crossword. Solve it to stamp that day in your calendar and keep your streak going.

Does it work offline?

Yes. Crossnook plays offline and needs no account.

Which languages are the crosswords in?

English, Spanish, and Portuguese from Portugal and from Brazil. Each language has its own words and clues, written for it. The game follows your phone's language, and uses English for any other.

Which devices does it run on?

Android phones, through Google Play.

Who is it for?

It is made for players aged 13 and over who like a calm word puzzle. The official age rating is shown on Google Play.

What about privacy?

No account is needed. The game sends anonymous gameplay counts to help us improve it, and the ad partner uses the advertising ID and an approximate location from the connection to show ads. Sharing a result goes through your phone's own share menu.

Are the clues hard?

They are short and fair: definitions, fill in the blank and a little wordplay. Each blank shows how many letters it hides, and Check and Reveal are there when you need them.
